Jojo Rabbit Video Essay

About the film |

In this video essay, my grandmother and I sit down and discuss our opinions on Taika Waititi's Jojo Rabbit. The video essay expresses our opposing ideas - mine that the film is a powerful satire and hers, being a Holocaust survivor, that the film can be dangerously interpreted. Our conversation exemplifies the film's message of discussion and debate with us reaching a positive and constructive conclusion. For this video, I created an engaging discussion between through the use of editing - selecting specific clips and shortening our hour and a half long discussion down to around twenty minutes. I recorded voice-over narration to introduce and direct the video essay and separated clips of my grandmother and myself with footage from the film (as well as other examples from our discussion).
