The Boys In Black
About the album
The idea for a black and white album stemmed from problems I encountered when editing a low-light photo of a friend of mine (sitting in the chair). The photo was dark and grainy and did not work well in all coloured edits. Eventually I decided to try a high contrast black and white edit, and immediately the photo popped, exhibiting a compelling noir feeling. From that one photo, I began experimenting with different styles of black and white edits on other photos I took of my friends and eventually an album came together. It became a kind of custom during the summer to photograph unique moments (candid or posed) and create a nostalgic collection of photos which we could look back on fondly. I aimed to capture the feelings of joy and freedom we felt during that summer, especially after having lived through a year of lockdown and isolation. Each photo evokes a unique emotion from the bliss of hiking in the woods or fishing on the dock, the excitement of creating a wrestling show or launching fireworks, or the peace and quiet found in someone or something you love. These photos represent the most memorable moments of our summer and offer a sense of escape and reminiscence into our past.
