Shrooms!

About the album

Most people, upon seeing a mushroom will think it to be gross and unpleasant, something that grows out of dead things. However, during the summer of 2021, I was exposed to a unique way of viewing these fungi. I was shown the underlying beauty in the recyclers and decomposers of the natural world. Within the Mushroom Kingdom, you can find an unfathomable amount of diversity, from those brightly coloured fungi to alien-like stems which sprout from the ground. Simply looking down while walking through the forest reveals a wholly new world of nature, unlike anything else. From spikey topped mushrooms called Old Man of the Woods to tweed-fabric-looking mushrooms which stain blue when exposed to oxygen, anything you could think of probably exists in the Mushroom Kingdom. Using only my Samsung Galaxy S21, I shot the fungi from low to the ground with a shallow depth of field in order to convey the perspective of the forest as seen by bugs and other crawling creatures. Although some of these are edible, it is ill advised to eat just any mushroom you find, regardless of how pretty it may be.
